Click here for an update from one of our missionaries who is across the world preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. When we talk about being on the mission of Jesus to our culture at LifePoint we often use the phrase “taking the gospel across the world and across the street.” A few weeks back one of our members, Jessica (17), came up with an idea about reaching our community here in Vancouver, specifically those kids and families who will be struggling to afford school supplies for the upcoming school year this fall. We think this has the potential to be an amazing opportunity for us to show the love of Jesus to our community.
Here’s how it works:
We are currently accepting donations of new backpacks, school supplies, or money to purchase these things. We will be working with local agencies (including contacts in the school districts located near our church facility) to reach students and families in our area. Our goal this first year is to collect and distribute 100 backpacks.
What can you do?
This outreach is slated for mid-August, so we’re in the middle of collecting the supplies and donations right now. You can bring the supplies to the welcome center at LifePoint on a Sunday or drop them off at the church office any time during the week. You can also donate online (mark it “backpacks”) here.
Here is a list of supplies:
-Crayons, colored pencils, markers, water colors
-Glue sticks and glue bottles
-Loose leaf notebook paper (wide and college rule)
-Composition books, spiral notebooks (wide and college rule)
-#2 pencils, pencil sharpener
-Pink pearl eraser
-Scissors (rounded and pointed tips)
-Supply boxes, pencil pouches
-3X3 post it notes, 3X5 index cards
-3 ring binders (1/2” to 1”)
-Ball point pens (red and black)
-Sharpies, white board markers
God has placed us in this community to love it like Jesus. Thanks for being a part!
